Bufff, colleagues, today I woke up and see the images of Leandro Paredes' welcome at Boca Juniors. I mean, the guy is sent off in the World Cup final after the massive brawl, he hits Eric García and Gavi (yes, Gavi, the little guy who already knows what it's like to be hit), and on top of that FIFA opens an investigation... and Boca gives him a guard of honor on the pitch? 🫠
I understand he's their captain, that he returns home after a World Cup runner-up finish, but damn, zero self-criticism. In Argentina they are hurt by losing the final, but holy cow, Paredes' actions were over the top. As a Spaniard who was blown away by the final, I see it and say "dude, don't mess with me." Now on top of that he says he wants to play in the Sudamericana playoff this Thursday... can you imagine if FIFA hits him with a heavy suspension right after? That would be explosive.

FIFA has an open investigation for the attacks on Eric García and Gavi. If he gets a 4-5 match international ban, he misses the start of the Qualifiers and any possible friendlies for Argentina. At Boca they fear the ban is worldwide and also affects him at club level... although the jurisprudence there is a mess. 🤷♂️
Okay, I understand that Boca wants to protect their player, he's their star and the club needs results. But giving him a guard of honor and treating him like a hero when what he did in the final was regrettable... isn't that sending a very bad message to young people? In Spain, if a La Roja player does that, at the very least he gets criticized from all sides, and rightfully so. Another mentality, I guess.

To me it seems that Argentine football is passionate even about these things. Paredes was sent off in the final, caused a brawl that tarnished Spain's great game, and in his country they welcome him with a guard of honor. What do you all think? I believe it's good to support your own, but up to a certain limit. If on top of that FIFA comes down hard on him, the move could cost the player and the club dearly. Opening debate 👇
