I think it's for real. Beach volleyball has what football is losing: matches that last just the right amount, approachable players who take photos with people, and a scene that combines elite sport with tourism. I see it having more staying power than padel, which in the end remains a rich people's sport. Of course, they also said that about tennis in the 2000s and look at young people now watching 4-hour matches...
